Alpine F1 Team Strengthens Management with Key Appointments

Alpine F1 Team has appointed Steve Nielsen as managing director, effective September 1. Nielsen returns to the team after previously serving as sporting director during its championship-winning years in 2005 and 2006. He comes from Formula 1 management and brings extensive experience from his tenure at the FIA.

Nielsen will oversee daily operations at the Enstone headquarters, reporting to executive director Flavio Briatore. His return is part of a broader restructuring, including the appointment of Kris Midgely as head of aerodynamic development. Midgely, who joins from Ferrari, has a history at Enstone, where he worked from 2007 to 2013.

Alpine emphasizes that Midgely’s expertise will enhance the technical department as the team gears up for the new regulations set to take effect in 2026. Additionally, Guy Martin has been named global marketing director, further bolstering the team’s organizational structure.

These strategic hires follow the unexpected departure of former team principal Oliver Oakes in May, after the Miami Grand Prix. Currently, Alpine sits at the bottom of the Constructors’ Championship, trailing Sauber by 15 points.
