Sao Paulo Grand Prix Sprint Qualifying: Norris Clinches Pole Amid Uncertain Weather

McLaren’s Lando Norris secured pole position for the Sprint at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix with a narrow 0.097-second advantage over Kimi Antonelli. The session highlighted Norris’s resilience, although he acknowledged a less-than-ideal performance, completing his primary objective of starting from the front.

“Not at my best, but good enough today,” Norris remarked. He expressed the challenges posed by the Interlagos circuit, noting, “It’s an amazing track to drive, but easy to get timings wrong, bumps wrong.”

The anticipation leading into Saturday’s race is heightened by a complicated weather forecast, which includes a cyclone warning. This could result in a wet race, significantly altering the competitive landscape.

“Of course, we have to prepare for both dry and wet conditions,” Norris stated. “I expect heavy rain and incredible winds tomorrow.”

Oscar Piastri, starting in third position, acknowledged improvements in his performance despite missing out on a front-row start. “I felt much happier today than the last couple of weeks,” he said, identifying the challenges of adapting to the softer tires.

Antonelli, the rookie sensation, expressed satisfaction with his second-place grid slot but admitted to leaving potential on the table, stating, “The soft lap was a bit of a shame… but still a decent lap. P2 for tomorrow, so a lot to fight for.”

In contrast, championship contender Max Verstappen struggled, qualifying sixth. He reported significant issues with grip and ride stability, stating, “A lot of vibration in the car… we just don’t have the grip. The middle sector is terrible.”

As the drivers prepare for a potentially unpredictable Sprint race, the focus will be on how weather conditions influence strategy and performance. The Sprint will set the stage for the main event on Sunday, where crucial championship points are at stake.
