Racing Bulls Appoints Alan Permane as Team Principal Following Red Bull Restructuring

Racing Bulls has announced the immediate appointment of Alan Permane as team principal, succeeding Laurent Mekies, who was promoted to CEO of Red Bull Racing following the dismissal of Christian Horner. This restructuring comes as part of Red Bull’s ongoing evolution following recent performance issues.

Permane joins Racing Bulls after a brief tenure as sporting director, having previously accumulated over 30 years of experience at Enstone under various team names, including Benetton, Renault, Lotus, and Alpine. His promotion underscores the organization’s commitment to continuity and expertise amid ongoing challenges; Racing Bulls currently sits seventh in the constructors’ championship after suffering a double DNF at Silverstone last Sunday.

In his first comments as team principal, Permane expressed gratitude for the opportunity: “I feel very honored to take on the role as team principal and would like to thank Oliver Mintzlaff and Helmut Marko for the trust they have shown in me,” he stated. He emphasized his eagerness to work alongside CEO Peter Bayer to build on the successes achieved under Mekies’ leadership.

Mekies, reflecting on his tenure, acknowledged Permane’s suitability for the role: “The last year and a half has been an absolute privilege to lead the team with Peter. Alan is the perfect man to take over now and continue our path. He knows the team inside out and has always been an important pillar of our early successes.”

This leadership change is notable against a backdrop of instability in other teams, with only Mercedes’ Toto Wolff remaining in a principal role for more than two full seasons. Andrea Stella, Fred Vasseur, and James Vowles all began their positions ahead of the 2023 season. Notably, Racing Bulls has a history of nurturing talent, highlighted by Max Verstappen’s early career development within its predecessor, Toro Rosso.

As Permane steps into his new role, he brings a wealth of experience and a clear mandate to steer Racing Bulls back into the competitive fold as they look to improve their standing in the championship.
