Piastri Admits Errors in Miami Qualifying, Secures P4 on Grid

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri faced a challenging qualifying session for the Miami Grand Prix, ultimately securing a fourth-place start behind pole-sitter Max Verstappen. The 2025 world champion exhibited his prowess once again, claiming his third pole of the season.

Piastri acknowledged that two critical mistakes compromised his performance. "It was just not the level of execution I needed in Q3," he stated. His best lap of the session came during Q2, highlighting a missed opportunity in the decisive final phase.

Both McLaren drivers appeared poised to contend for pole, yet neither could fully capitalize. Lando Norris pinpointed struggles particularly in the last corner, while Piastri criticized his opening laps. "I think I lost pretty much two tenths at Turn 1," he explained, noting he never regained his earlier rhythm.

With Verstappen and Norris ahead, Piastri will share the second row with Mercedes’ Andrea Kimi Antonelli. Despite the strong grid position, Piastri recognized the difficulties of overtaking on race day, particularly in what is expected to be a one-stop race strategy.

"Qualifying makes a massive difference for tomorrow," he reflected, expressing confidence in the car’s capabilities while acknowledging the competitive edge needed for advancement.

As both McLaren drivers continue to navigate the intricacies of the 2025 season, focus will be on execution as they aim for stronger race performances.
