Pirelli Announces Tyre Compound Changes for Upcoming Grands Prix

Milan, Italy — Pirelli has confirmed the tyre compounds for the remaining Formula 1 races leading into the summer break, revealing notable adjustments for the British and Belgian Grands Prix.

For the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, Pirelli will provide softer compounds than in previous years, shifting the selections to C2, C3, and C4, contrasting with last season’s C1, C2, and C3. This decision raises concerns due to the circuit’s high-speed nature and recent history of tyre failures.

In Belgium, the strategy takes an intriguing turn. Pirelli will introduce a non-sequential compound selection: C1 for hard, C3 for medium, and C4 for soft. This aims to create a more pronounced performance gap between the hard and medium tyres, thereby complicating teams’ race strategies and enhancing the unpredictability of one-stop versus two-stop strategies.

Pirelli Motorsport Manager Mario Isola commented on the Silverstone challenge, noting, "The medium, which has served as the soft in past years, will need careful management."

Isola also emphasized that while the Belgian Grand Prix serves as a practical test for the new compound strategy, the objective is not to enforce a two-stop strategy but to foster competition and variability. "Teams will find a way to apply a strategy on a one-stop," he stated, reflecting the ongoing balance between tyre performance and race strategy.

As both events approach, teams must recalibrate their strategies, factoring in these significant tyre developments. The impact of these compound selections will be closely monitored, particularly as the season progresses through intense summer races.
