Carlos Sainz achieved a remarkable third-place finish at the Qatar Grand Prix, marking his second podium of the season and his proudest moment with Williams Racing. This result solidifies the team’s fifth place in the Constructors’ Championship ahead of the final round.
Sainz’s resurgence in the second half of the season has been significant, with 48 of his 64 points earned in the last seven races. This latest podium follows his earlier success in Azerbaijan, where he first broke through after a challenging start to the year.
Reflecting on his performance, Sainz stated, “Baku was a relief after a difficult ten races. We all have seasons where things don’t come together, but once I had a chance to fight for a podium, I took it.” Commenting on the race execution, he praised the team’s efforts, saying, “Everyone’s done a perfect job. The pit stops were spot on, and it was exactly what we needed.”
Sainz expressed immense pride in his team, emphasizing the significant turnaround considering expectations leading into the weekend. “We thought it was going to be our toughest race of the year, and to come away with a podium was incredible,” he noted. “We nailed the strategy, race pace, and tire management, which brought us this unexpected result.”
In summary, Sainz’s podium at the Qatar Grand Prix serves not only as a personal triumph but also as a testament to Williams’ growth and capability in the latter part of the season.
