Sauber Motorsport Launches Bicester Technology Centre Ahead of Audi Transition
Sauber Motorsport has inaugurated its Bicester Technology Centre in Oxfordshire, marking a crucial step as it prepares for its transition to the Audi works team in 2026. This facility, located on a 444-acre site, will complement Sauber’s existing operations in Hinwil, Switzerland, and Neuburg, Germany.
The decision to establish a base in the UK comes as Audi aims to tap into the rich talent pool within the UK’s motorsport valley, an area populated by seven Formula 1 teams. By situating itself in close proximity to this hub, Audi hopes to attract skilled personnel without requiring them to relocate internationally.
Audi F1 project chief Mattia Binotto highlighted the importance of the Bicester facility: “This technology centre is a significant milestone as we prepare for Audi’s arrival in Formula 1. It will enhance our technical capabilities and support our operations in Hinwil.”
The Bicester Motion site will also be excluded from the 2024 cost cap, offering financial relief as the team navigates Switzerland’s high cost of living. Bicester Motion CEO Daniel Geoghegan expressed optimism about the partnership, stating that it aligns with their vision for sustainability and innovation in motorsport.
Currently, Sauber is positioned near the bottom of the 2025 F1 Constructors’ Championship standings, with drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto signed through 2026. This strategic move aims to bolster Sauber’s competitiveness as it transitions to an Audi-backed operation.
