A recent survey indicates that Formula 1 (F1) has successfully captivated a significant number of new fans and is poised to maintain their interest well into the future. The 2025 Global F1 Fan Survey reveals that 94% of all respondents expect to continue following the sport over the next five years, reflecting strong long-term engagement across demographics. Notably, this figure rises to 97% among Gen Z and 96% for fans who have joined within the last five years.
F1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali remarked, “We are excited about our future. As we enter 2026, we will see a new era of cars with sustainable fuel and a new team and new venue that will further improve the battle on the track. And we know our fans are excited too.”
The growth trajectory of F1 is attributed to various factors, including its increasing visibility in the United States and the Netflix docuseries Drive to Survive. Interestingly, while 16% of new fans credit the docuseries for their interest, 39% reported that friends and family were their primary entry point into the sport.
Domenicali’s insights, paired with the survey data, indicate that F1’s fanbase is not only expanding but is also firmly committed. Long-term fans, including those over 45, show similarly strong loyalty, with nearly 93% expressing intent to remain engaged with the sport.
As F1 prepares for a transitional phase in 2026, it remains critical for the organization to nurture both its new and established audiences, ensuring the continued growth and engagement of a diverse fanbase.
