LEGO Commemorates British Grand Prix with Unique Trophies

In a significant collaboration, LEGO has unveiled the official trophies for the upcoming British Grand Prix, marking the 75th anniversary of Formula 1’s inaugural race. Designer Samuel Liltorp Johnson spearheaded the project, creating four trophies, including the prestigious RAC Cup, entirely from LEGO bricks.

The winners’ trophy is crafted from 2,717 bricks and weighs over 2kg. A team of seven builders dedicated more than 210 hours to complete all four trophies, demonstrating extraordinary craftsmanship. “It’s probably the closest that F1 has to something like the FIFA World Cup trophy. So to get to do that is pretty cool,” Johnson stated.

The collaboration is part of F1’s broader strategy to engage with younger fans and incorporate creativity into the sport. “Everything that LEGO has done has been super authentic to our sport,” said F1 Chief Commercial Officer Emily Prazer, underscoring the balance between tradition and innovation.

The trophies not only showcase intricate design but also emphasize LEGO’s commitment to inspiring future generations. “These moments are special and they will inspire the next generation,” Johnson added. Prazer echoed his sentiments, stating the initiative aims to integrate traditional F1 values while appealing to a new demographic.

LEGO Group’s Chief Product and Marketing Officer Julia Goldin highlighted that further activations will be strategically planned to enhance fan engagement without compromising the integrity of the sport.

The collaboration underscores a shift in how F1 interacts with its fanbase, blending heritage with modern appeal, as evidenced by the recent Miami Grand Prix where LEGO unveiled drivable car replicas for drivers. As F1 continues to innovate, this partnership with LEGO may redefine how motorsport engages its evolving audience.
