Ferrari Team Report: Upgrades on the Horizon Amidst Performance Challenges
Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur has confirmed that the Scuderia will introduce an upgrade package in the coming races while emphasizing the need for improved execution on race weekends. Following Charles Leclerc’s podium finish in Spain, the Canadian Grand Prix was a setback, marked by a crash during FP1, a qualifying error, and strategic questions during the race.
In Montreal, Leclerc and teammate Carlos Sainz finished fifth and sixth, respectively, as Lewis Hamilton faced downforce issues after striking a groundhog. Vasseur acknowledged that consistent tire performance and race execution are critical as the team navigates challenges with Pirelli tires. "The main issue is to do a good usage of the tyres," he stated.
Despite ongoing criticisms, Ferrari remains the second-most consistent points scorer this season, trailing only McLaren and maintaining a slim 16-point margin over Mercedes. “We need upgrades to be able to fight the guys up front,” Hamilton remarked after qualifying fifth, drawing attention to Ferrari’s stagnant performance relative to their rivals.
While Ferrari plans to unveil enhancements by the Silverstone race, Vasseur cautioned that these upgrades alone will not resolve the team’s issues. "It’s much more in the execution than the pure potential of the car," he said. He indicated that proper tire management and set-up adjustments are essential for maximizing performance.
Ferrari’s decision to focus on upgrading its 2025 car, despite facing the looming 2026 regulations, is intended to keep morale high. Vasseur clarified that the resource allocation between the cars is not a primary concern, underscoring the necessity of improving overall execution to capitalize on existing potential.
In summary, as Ferrari prepares for upcoming upgrades, the emphasis will be on refining race strategies and tire management to become a more formidable competitor in the championship standings.
