Max Verstappen Triumphs at Nordschleife in GT3 Race

Max Verstappen showcased his driving prowess at the Nurburgring Langstrecken-Serie, securing victory in a Ferrari 296 GT3 fielded by Emil Frey Racing. The defending Formula 1 champion’s performance on the iconic Nordschleife circuit comes shortly after his win in Baku, further solidifying his competitive edge.

Verstappen expressed satisfaction with his experience, noting, “It was a lot of fun… racing a bit in the wet, in the dry, just getting more and more experience was nice.” He acknowledged that while it may not directly enhance his Formula 1 capabilities, “it definitely doesn’t hurt” to engage with different machinery.

Despite his impressive outing, Verstappen confirmed he would not return to the Nordschleife this year but has expressed interest in participating in the 2026 race. He stated, “It depends on a lot of things… there are many unknowns with the new rules next year.”

His insights highlight a complex interplay between his F1 commitments and aspirations in endurance racing. “F1 is still my main goal,” he remarked, reflecting on the demanding race calendar. He emphasized the necessity of aligning his scheduling with the GT3 team’s plans, yet remains hopeful for future participations in endurance events.

The Dutch driver’s success has drawn admiration from F1 peers, with George Russell commenting on the envy surrounding Verstappen’s ability to race outside of F1: “I think it’s incredible… respect it a lot.” Lando Norris echoed this sentiment, highlighting Verstappen’s talent and articulating the challenges faced by many drivers who aspire to expand their racing exploits.

As the motorsport season progresses, Verstappen’s extracurricular racing endeavors continue to resonate within the F1 community, underscoring both his elite status and the competitive landscape of professional racing.
