Miami Grand Prix Qualifying Report

Max Verstappen Secures Pole Position

Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing claimed pole position at the Miami Grand Prix, marking his third pole in the last four races. He edged out Lando Norris of McLaren, finishing with a time that highlighted Red Bull’s competitive advantage.

Despite McLaren’s strong performance in the sprint race, which had initially positioned them as frontrunners for the qualifying session, Verstappen executed a near-perfect lap. He established a significant lead in the first sector, clocking 0.2 seconds faster than Norris, despite a rear-end slip entering Turn 1. Ultimately, Verstappen’s efforts culminated in a narrow 0.065-second victory.

“It’s been a great qualifying,” Verstappen stated. “I improved the car a bit, which helped with rotation. Over the lap, it’s complicated with the tires, but I’m very happy to be on pole.”

Norris secured second place, focusing on his progress amidst a challenging weekend. “I’m happy with today,” indicated Norris, noting that although he didn’t deliver his best, the car felt good and the pace was promising. He was just ahead of Kimi Antonelli, who achieved his best qualifying result in third, finishing a scant 0.002 seconds behind Norris.

The top five was rounded out by Oscar Piastri, who faced difficulties during his second lap, placing him fourth. George Russell closely followed in fifth, while Carlos Sainz outqualified his teammate, Alex Albon, to start sixth, marking the third consecutive race in which Sainz took the upper hand.

Charles Leclerc qualified eighth for Ferrari, expressing disappointment in the car’s performance, while Esteban Ocon marked his first Q3 appearance this season in ninth. Yuki Tsunoda completed the top ten, lapping 0.739 seconds behind his teammate.

Notably, Isack Hadjar just missed Q3, qualifying 11th, while Lewis Hamilton’s struggles in 12th place marked his first failure to make Q3 this season. The session also saw Fernando Alonso face technical issues, as his car required substantial repairs following a crash during the sprint.
