Verstappen Reflects on Challenging Season, Prioritizes Consistency for Red Bull Ahead of 2026

Max Verstappen, the reigning Formula 1 champion, has acknowledged the challenges facing Red Bull this season, conceding that another grand prix victory may be out of reach. Currently, he finds himself 97 points behind championship leader Oscar Piastri after a disappointing streak of four races without a podium—though he did secure a Sprint win in Belgium. The Dutch driver managed only two victories in the first half of the calendar year.

Verstappen remains focused on the learning opportunities ahead, especially in enhancing the car’s predictability. "We always want a decent finish. Of course, the focus for everyone is already a lot on 2026," he stated, emphasizing the need for consistent performance and results.

When asked about the possibility of winning again this season, Verstappen replied pragmatically, "I don’t know if wins are possible. After a weekend like [Hungary], it’s very difficult to say. But you never know; there might always be surprises."

Reflecting on Red Bull’s current difficulties, Verstappen recognized the inevitability of his championship dominance coming to an end, noting, "I’ve had really a lot of good results over the last four years, so it comes and goes."

He also praised McLaren’s resurgence, attributing part of Red Bull’s struggles to the team’s own challenges. "You need to acknowledge that McLaren has done a fantastic job from last year to this year, too. That’s an important factor," he said.

In light of recent personnel changes, including Laurent Mekies taking over as team principal from Christian Horner, Verstappen expressed optimism, stating, "He’s very open-minded. It will only get better and better—the communication that we have—but it’s been going really well."

As the season progresses, Verstappen remains committed to extracting valuable lessons that will guide Red Bull’s preparations for future challenges.
