British Grand Prix: McLaren and Ferrari Stand Out in Practice
Silverstone, UK – As the Formula 1 British Grand Prix approaches, McLaren has emerged as the team to beat, bolstered by recent upgrades that maintain their competitive edge. However, Ferrari’s noticeable improvements have drawn attention from rivals, particularly after significant changes made ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix.
In last weekend’s race at the Red Bull Ring, Charles Leclerc managed to qualify second, ultimately finishing third, while Lewis Hamilton achieved his best qualifying result since joining Ferrari, starting and finishing fourth. These developments indicate a resurgence for the Scuderia, who had previously struggled earlier in the season.
During Friday practice at Silverstone, Hamilton led the first session (FP1) and finished third in FP2, with Leclerc closely following in second. Lando Norris, from McLaren, topped FP2, reinforcing the team’s strong performance.
Norris remarked on Ferrari’s competitiveness, stating, “In general, the Ferraris have been very, very quick today, and they shall be tomorrow.” The urgency within McLaren is evident, as both Norris and championship leader Oscar Piastri acknowledged the challenge Ferrari poses moving forward, particularly after recent performance gains.
Piastri noted, “Ferrari have looked very competitive… the potential is definitely there,” while Hamilton urged caution regarding Ferrari’s form, suggesting that the challenge is becoming more intense.
Mercedes’ George Russell highlighted Ferrari’s momentum, stating, “For sure, Ferrari have really turned it up for the last couple of races.” He emphasized that the hot conditions may have contributed to Mercedes’ setbacks compared to Ferrari’s recent improvements.
As the teams head into the qualifying round, all eyes will be on Ferrari to see if their newfound pace can translate into race competitiveness against the dominant McLaren duo.
