Ferrari Under Scrutiny Ahead of 2025 Imola GP: Team Confident Despite SF-25 Struggles

Ferrari’s team principal, Frederic Vasseur, addressed ongoing concerns about the team’s engineering approach during a media session ahead of the 2025 Imola Grand Prix. Noting the team’s struggles, particularly with the SF-25 car, Vasseur stated, “We’ve made some mistakes with the car, but we know where to improve.”

Currently, Ferrari sits fourth in the Constructors’ Championship, 152 points behind leaders McLaren. The underperformance has sparked questions about the technical team’s efficacy and decision-making. Vasseur confirmed that the team’s technical director, Loïc Serra, who joined last October, inherited critical design responsibilities from his predecessor, Enrico Cardile, who is currently on leave.

“The current car was already 90% defined when Loïc arrived,” Vasseur explained, highlighting the challenges of changing leadership mid-project. He emphasized that the core team responsible for the SF-25 development remained intact, despite performance issues. “Just because a project has problems doesn’t mean the structure isn’t working,” he added.

Vasseur also underscored that Ferrari is not abandoning development of the SF-25 in favor of the 2026 project. Major upgrades are anticipated during the Spanish Grand Prix weekend, as the team aims to maximize the potential of the current car. “We often end weekend races feeling we haven’t extracted the maximum. Until that changes, we still see room for improvement,” he stated.

The upcoming challenges will test Ferrari’s resolve as they work through technical difficulties and strive for competitiveness on the grid.
