Jack Doohan Replaced by Franco Colapinto at Alpine F1 Team
In a significant shakeup ahead of the next Formula 1 race at Imola, Australian driver Jack Doohan has been replaced by Franco Colapinto at the Alpine F1 team. The 21-year-old Colapinto, who began his racing career at Alpine as a reserve driver in 2025, will take the wheel for at least five rounds of the season.
Colapinto’s entry into Formula 1 follows a diverse career trajectory. Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, he made his mark in karting at age 10, transitioning to the Formula Renault Eurocup and the Toyota Racing Series before venturing into sportscars and endurance racing.
His breakthrough came in the FIA Formula 3, where he secured two wins and finished ninth overall in his debut season in 2022. This performance led to a promotion to F2, where he continued to impress, notably clinching a victory in the sprint race at Imola.
Colapinto’s stint with Williams F1 included a challenging season filled with ups and downs, culminating in a best finish of eighth place at the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. After demonstrating potential, he was signed by Alpine, where he developed his skills in the simulator while awaiting his competitive debut.
"This is a remarkable opportunity to showcase what I can do at the highest level of motorsport," Colapinto stated following the announcement. With the pressure on to perform, he will be aiming to solidify his position in one of the sport’s most prestigious teams.
As the season progresses, Colapinto’s performance will be closely monitored to assess whether he can fulfill Alpine’s aspirations for competitive results on the grid.
