David Croft Steps Back as Sky Sports F1 Lead Commentator for Emilia Romagna Grand Prix
In a notable shift within the Formula 1 broadcasting landscape, David Croft will step aside from his role as Sky Sports F1 lead commentator for the upcoming 2025 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. Harry Benjamin, who previously filled in for Croft during several races in 2024, will assume the lead commentary position for this event.
The transition follows Croft’s decision to take a reduced broadcasting schedule amid an expanding F1 calendar, which now features 24 races. In an interview with The Independent, Croft expressed his desire for a more balanced life:
“It’s more about keeping fresh for the whole season. I want to give a bit of time back to my family and not be on the other side of the world. The triple headers do take their toll.”
Additionally, Croft highlighted his upcoming marriage and the importance of experiencing races as a spectator:
“I want to enjoy it. Maybe I can learn something by not commentating on a race.”
Harry Benjamin, who has led the BBC Radio 5 Live F1 broadcasts since 2022, brings a wealth of experience, having also worked as a presenter at Autosport International and covered Formula 2, Formula 3, and other series. In a social media post reflecting on his first full season in F1, Benjamin stated:
“Learnt a huge amount… to even have had the chance to lead the @skysportsf1 coverage was a dream come true.”
As Benjamin takes the reins for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, the motorsport community will be keenly observing his performance in this elevated role.
