Norris Claims Monaco Victory as McLaren Reclaims Its Glory
Monaco, 2025 – Lando Norris secured a significant victory at the Monaco Grand Prix, marking McLaren’s first win in this prestigious race since 2008. Norris’s triumph, aided by a stunning pole lap, boosts his title campaign while narrowing the championship gap to teammate Oscar Piastri to just three points.
In the post-race press conference, Norris acknowledged that while the victory was a relief and a critical boost to his confidence, he still faces challenges. “I still need to find consistency in my performances,” he remarked, emphasizing the unique demands of the Monaco circuit and his ongoing adaptation to the MCL39.
McLaren’s CEO, Zak Brown, also celebrated the team’s return to form but had to balance his commitments, attending both the Monaco GP and the Indianapolis 500 weekend. Brown’s presence at Monaco was notably significant, as he had previously opted to skip the event in favor of Indy. This year, with McLaren’s resurgence in Formula 1, Brown deemed it too important to miss.
Historically, McLaren dominated the Monaco circuit from 1984 to 1993, securing nine wins in ten races with legends like Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna behind the wheel. With this latest achievement, McLaren expands its tally to 16 wins at Monte Carlo.
Looking ahead, McLaren is set to pursue the elusive "triple crown"—victories in Monaco, the Indy 500, and the Le Mans 24 Hours. Brown’s commitment to this goal includes the ambitious return to Le Mans with an LMDh hypercar in 2027, and his leadership reflects a determination to elevate McLaren’s legacy to new heights.
At the Indy 500, McLaren faced disappointment, finishing fourth with driver Pato O’Ward, while Alex Palou claimed victory. Brown’s dual focus on both events illustrates the current trajectory of McLaren’s competitive edge across motorsport disciplines.
As McLaren aims to reassert its dominance, the path is clear: Norris and Piastri, spearheading the charge, are determined to reclaim McLaren’s former glory in both Formula 1 and IndyCar racing.
