Austrian Grand Prix Qualifying: Rookies Shine on F1 Stage

The 2025 Formula 1 season continues to showcase emerging talent, as rookies Liam Lawson, Gabriel Bortoleto, and Andrea Kimi Antonelli all advanced to Q3 at the Austrian Grand Prix, marking their growing presence in the championship.

Qualifying Results:

  • Liam Lawson (Red Bull Racing): Qualified 7th
  • Gabriel Bortoleto (Sauber): Qualified 8th
  • Andrea Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes): Qualified 9th

Liam Lawson expressed relief over his strong qualifying performance, noting, “The team has been doing a really, really good job… to make a little step from practice three and put everything together was a very good feeling.” As the top-finishing Red Bull entry, Lawson remains optimistic about the race, acknowledging the competitive nature of the field.

When reflecting on qualifying ahead of teammate Max Verstappen, Lawson stated, “Obviously, we maximised today, but I don’t expect to be racing him tomorrow.” His focus remains on maintaining pace against those directly behind him.

Gabriel Bortoleto, the reigning Formula 2 champion, was pleased with his results, remarking, “I feel like things are starting to click at Sauber… it feels like the first weekend I’m that comfortable.” Despite not yet scoring points this season, Bortoleto hopes to capitalize on his growing familiarity with the car and team.

Andrea Kimi Antonelli, despite a promising start, faced disappointment after a late mistake that cost him a final flying lap. “I missed the flag, so I couldn’t do the last lap,” he said, reflecting on what could have been a higher grid position.

As the F1 grid prepares for the race, the performance of these rookies highlights a competitive future for the series as they strive to secure their first championship points.
