McLaren’s Strong Weekend: Norris Victorious at Monaco, Indy 500 Approaches

In a triumphant display for McLaren, Lando Norris claimed victory in the Monaco Grand Prix, marking his sixth career win. The outcome further solidified the team’s momentum as CEO Zak Brown travels to Indianapolis for the imminent Indy 500.

Norris dominated the Monaco race, showcasing strategic prowess and strong pace, while teammate Oscar Piastri secured a commendable third place. Following the race, Brown expressed his elation, stating, "It was pretty much a perfect weekend. I couldn’t be happier. Monaco’s the big one." His celebration included a podium toast with fellow competitors, including Charles Leclerc, who finished second.

The Indy 500 will commence just hours after the Monaco Grand Prix, leaving Brown unable to witness the race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. However, he indicated hopes for a successful day, desiring “a combination of champagne and milk,” reflective of the post-race traditions unique to Indy.

In IndyCar qualifying, McLaren’s Pato O’Ward secured a front-row start, with teammates Christian Lundgaard and Nolan Siegel qualifying eighth and twenty-fourth, respectively. Kyle Larson aims to complete the ‘double’ by racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Coca-Cola 600 following the Indy 500.

Norris extended respect for IndyCar drivers, acknowledging their talent. “There’s a lot of incredibly talented drivers over there in America," he remarked, highlighting former teammate Robert Shwartzman, who qualified on pole. Leclerc echoed similar sentiments about the challenges of the iconic Indy 500, stating, “It’s a crazy race, I don’t think I will ever do it,” while expressing a desire to compete at Le Mans in the future.

As McLaren shifts focus to the upcoming Indy 500, the team aims to carry forward the enthusiasm and success seen at Monaco, underlining its competitive spirit across multiple motorsports disciplines.
