McLaren CEO to Drive Historic Williams FW11B at 2025 British Grand Prix

Silverstone, UK — McLaren CEO Zak Brown has announced that he will drive the iconic 1987 Williams FW11B, famously piloted by Nigel Mansell, during the 2025 British Grand Prix weekend. The car, which has undergone a full restoration, is set to make its debut on track at this prestigious event.

In a recent interview with ESPN F1, Brown expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity to engage with fans: "I think the fans are going to love this around the British Grand Prix, but they might be a bit confused why the McLaren guy’s in a Williams." Brown is scheduled to test the vehicle next week in Spain, marking his first time behind the wheel.

The FW11B holds significant historical value, having led Mansell to numerous victories in 1987, a year in which he famously clinched the British Grand Prix after a notable tire puncture incident. Brown emphasized the chassis’s legacy, noting, "That was this exact chassis," referring to Mansell’s record-breaking performance at Silverstone.

Brown acquired the car through a sponsorship deal with Williams, humorously recounting the negotiation: "I told them they could sell me a car, and I picked this one."

The British Grand Prix weekend is known for featuring demonstration runs of historic F1 cars. Last year’s event saw Jenson Button pilot the FW22, drawing considerable attention from fans.

As fans eagerly await the 2025 race, Brown’s involvement with the FW11B reinforces the enduring legacy of Formula 1 and the connection between past and present champions.
