Jacob Abel Transitions to IMSA with Era Motorsport in LMP2

Jacob Abel, the 24-year-old driver from Kentucky, will embark on a new chapter in his racing career, joining Era Motorsport to compete in the IMSA LMP2 class for the upcoming endurance races. Abel will participate in five pivotal events, including the prestigious Rolex 24 At Daytona.

Previously associated with Dale Coyne Racing in the IndyCar Series, Abel has a solid foundation in open-wheel racing, having advanced through the USF Championships and finishing second in the 2024 Indy NXT championship, trailing only Louis Foster. His initial IndyCar season proved challenging, prompting a shift to the Asian Le Mans Series with Vector Sport RLR, where he aimed to showcase his talents further.

Abel’s decision to join Era Motorsport comes after he weighed options for a potential GTD PRO seat within the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. He will share the No. 18 Era LMP2 car with full-time drivers Ferdinand Habsburg and Naveen Rao, alongside Logan Sargeant, who will join as a fourth driver for the Rolex 24.

“This is something I’m really excited about,” Abel stated in a recent interview. “We worked hard to continue in IndyCar, but that didn’t work out for this season. The Asian Le Mans program facilitated my move into IMSA, making it an easy decision with Era.”

Abel is set to make his Era Motorsport debut at the Roar Before The 24 test at Daytona, scheduled for the weekend preceding the Rolex 24. This event will mark a significant milestone in his transition to endurance racing.
