DragonSpeed Signs Matteo Cairoli for 64th Rolex 24 at Daytona
DragonSpeed has officially named Matteo Cairoli as the fourth driver for its No. 81 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R in the GTD class for the upcoming 64th Rolex 24 at Daytona. He will team alongside Henrik Hedman, Giacomo Altoè, and Casper Stevenson.
Cairoli, who transitioned from a decade-long stint with Porsche to Lamborghini for the SC63 prototype’s launch year in 2024, recently left Lamborghini following a reduction in the SC63 program. He continues to race with Iron Lynx, competing in the LMGT3 category of the World Endurance Championship and piloting a Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO. Despite a challenging start, which saw him dropped after three rounds, Cairoli also participated in a full European Le Mans Series LMP2 campaign with Iron Lynx–Proton.
His recent accolades include a second-place finish in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup with Winward Racing and a podium finish—third—in this year’s Nürburgring 24 Hours driving a Dinamic GT Porsche.
Expressing enthusiasm for the upcoming race, Cairoli stated, “I am glad to join the team for Daytona 24 in such a strong line-up. I will give my very best to adapt to the car as quickly as possible, and it would be cool to get a successful result in our first time together.”
Elton Julian, the team principal of DragonSpeed, emphasized the strategic significance of this addition: “The addition of Matteo to our line-up signals exactly what we are aiming to do: Surround Henrik with a rapid, powerful, and experienced line-up.”
