Ford Racing Unveils Mustang GT3 Evo Kit Ahead of 2026 Debut
Ford Racing has announced significant updates to the Mustang GT3’s Evo kit, set to debut at the 64th Rolex 24 At Daytona on January 24-25, 2026. The enhancements, first showcased during a test session at Daytona International Speedway, reflect ongoing development since the initial GT3 launch.
Technical Enhancements
Global Sports Car Manager Alex Allmandinger confirmed that the Evo kit focuses on three main areas: aerodynamics, kinematics, and braking. The GT3 maintains the legacy of over 60 years of Mustang racing while integrating insights garnered from various global programs.
Aerodynamically, the most noticeable update is the addition of double dive planes on the front bumper, designed to enhance downforce and stability under varying ride heights. Ford has also revised the splitter and rear diffuser. Allmandinger emphasized that these changes are aimed at improving overall performance: “The dive planes are the most obvious changes,” he noted, adding that they significantly enhance front-end downforce.
In terms of suspension, both the front and rear kinematics have been refined. “These updates alter the dynamic behavior of the car,” Allmandinger stated. This comprehensive testing across circuits, including Portimão and Laguna Seca, has yielded crucial data on tire performance.
Braking System Upgrade
A pivotal change is the transition to Brembo brakes, supplanting Alcon as the supplier. The shift is intended to enhance reliability and braking efficiency, essential for endurance racing. “Component reliability is non-negotiable, especially at prestigious events such as Le Mans and Spa,” Allmandinger remarked.
Development and Testing Timeline
The Evo package has been in development since 2023, involving extensive wind tunnel testing and on-track sessions. Recent tests at Sebring and Daytona have validated the modifications, showcasing the Mustang GT3’s readiness for competition.
Allmandinger concluded, “As we enter the off-season, our focus remains on further refining each component to ensure the Mustang GT3 is prepared to excel when it returns to the grid.”
With these upgrades, Ford Racing positions the Mustang GT3 to remain competitive in various racing formats, outlining their commitment to delivering high-performance vehicles to their customer teams in the coming seasons.
