Jenson Button Joins Jota’s Cadillac Line-Up for 2024 WEC Campaign
February 2024 – Jenson Button, the 2009 Formula 1 world champion, will race for Jota’s Cadillac entry in the upcoming World Endurance Championship (WEC) season. Alongside Button, Earl Bamber and Sébastien Bourdais comprise the driver trio for the #38 Cadillac V-Series.R LMDh, as announced on Tuesday.
Cadillac Hertz Team Jota’s sister car, the #12 entry, will feature drivers Alex Lynn, Will Stevens, and Norman Nato throughout the season. The championship kicks off with the 10-hour Qatar 1812Km on February 28.
This announcement marks the end of the partnership between Bamber and Lynn, who spent three seasons together at Chip Ganassi Racing. They competed in the WEC and the IMSA SportsCar Championship, achieving significant results with the Cadillac DPi-V.R.
Bourdais transitions from Cadillac’s IMSA squad to a full-time position in the WEC, having previously shared a drive with Bamber and Lynn during select rounds last season.
Dieter Gass, team principal of the Jota WEC squad, emphasized the focus on optimizing driver combinations for enhanced team performance: "While character and personality play a big role in team dynamics, driving style and preferences were also key factors in determining who would be paired in each car."
Jota’s continued investment in team chemistry is evident, as Gass noted, “We’ve already seen an incredible team spirit build between our drivers and their crews” during pre-season testing.
Bamber will prioritize the WEC despite also competing with Action Express Racing in IMSA, making a strategic decision to miss the opening Laguna Seca event to participate in the Spa 6 Hours in May.
Official track action begins with the two-day prologue test in Qatar on February 21-22, ahead of the season opener.
