Indianapolis Motor Speedway Practice Report

Indianapolis, IN – The No. 60 Acura Meyer Shank Racing ARX-06, driven by Tom Blomqvist, continued to assert its dominance in the opening two practice sessions ahead of qualifying for the TireRack.com Battle on the Bricks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Blomqvist clocked a blistering 1:15.714, becoming the first GTP driver to break the 1:16 mark.

In Practice 2, Blomqvist’s time surpassed that of Ricky Taylor, who managed a 1:16.297 in the No. 10 Cadillac of Wayne Taylor Racing. Nick Yelloly rounded out the top three in Acura’s No. 93, posting a time of 1:16.352.

The leaderboard was further populated by Romain Grosjean’s No. 63 Lamborghini SC63, which recorded a time of 1:16.481, placing it fourth. Dries Vanthoor completed the top five with a late-session time of 1:16.823 in the No. 24 BMW M Hybrid V8.

GTP championship leader Matt Campbell encountered issues when his No. 6 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963 was subsequently damaged in a collision with Sébastien Bourdais’ No. 8 Tower Motorsports ORECA LMP2. The incident necessitated a red flag and resulted in penalties for Bourdais in qualifying.

In the LMP2 category, Nicklas Nielsen of AF Corse secured the fastest lap, recording a 1:16.989, displacing Hunter McElrea in the No. 11 TDS Racing ORECA. Notably, Logan Sargeant made his IMSA debut, quickly adapting in the No. 52 PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports car, finishing fifth.

In the GTD class, the No. 27 Heart of Racing Team Aston Martin, driven by Casper Stevenson, topped the timesheets at 1:23.624, while in GTD PRO, Albert Costa led with a 1:23.720 in the No. 81 DragonSpeed Ferrari 296 GT3, edging out Christopher Mies in the No. 65 Mustang GT3.

The practice sessions concluded with a three-car collision involving Edoardo Mortara’s No. 63 Lamborghini, Tobias Lütke’s No. 18 ORECA LMP2, and Matthew Bell’s No. 13 AWA Racing Corvette. The incident resulted in significant penalties for the Lamborghini, impacting its qualifying times.

Qualifying for the race is scheduled for 3:15 PM ET, with broadcast coverage available on Peacock and internationally on the IMSA YouTube channel.
