Road America: No. 93 Acura Meyer Shank Racing Claims Pole Position

Elkhart Lake, WI – The No. 93 Acura Meyer Shank Racing ARX-06 secured pole position for the Motul SportsCar Grand Prix at Road America, with driver Nick Yelloly delivering a standout performance in a tightly contested GTP qualifying session. This marks Yelloly’s second pole of the season and the third consecutive pole for the Acura entry.

Yelloly established provisional pole with a stunning lap time of 1m48.628s, edging out the competition from BMW M Team RLL. The session saw initial dominance by Dries Vanthoor, who recorded a 1m49.071s early on. However, both van der Linde brothers were unable to match Yelloly’s pace, finishing second and third with times of 1m48.681s and 1m48.683s, respectively. Colin Braun rounded out the top four in the No. 60 MSR Acura with a time of 1m48.708s, leaving just eight hundredths of a second separating the top four qualifiers.

Current GTP points leader Matt Campbell qualified fifth in the No. 6 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963, while Jack Aitken took sixth in the No. 31 Cadillac Whelen V-Series.R.

In the LMP2 category, PJ Hyett continued his dominance, achieving his third consecutive IMSA pole in the No. 99 ORECA 07-Gibson. Hyett’s lap of 1m53.240s set him significantly ahead of George Kurtz in second place, who also broke the 1m54s barrier. Points leader Daniel Goldburg qualified third after losing a potentially faster lap due to a red flag incident. Tonis Kasemets made a notable debut, finishing fourth with Team Tonis.

GTD PRO saw Giacomo Altoe in the No. 81 Ferrari 296 GT3 capture pole, narrowly defeating the Corvette Racing pair of Alexander Sims and Tommy Milner. Altoe’s quick lap of 2m03.904s was just two hundredths quicker than Sims’ time, showcasing the competitive nature of the field.

Pfaff Motorsports’ absence from the qualifying session was notable, as their primary No. 9 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO was damaged in practice. However, the team has secured a backup vehicle from Forte Racing.

In the GTD category, championship co-leader Russell Ward claimed his first pole of the season in the No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3, clocking a remarkable 2m03.745s. Casper Stevenson and Onofrio Triarsi followed closely behind, securing second and third, respectively.

The Motul SportsCar Grand Prix is set to commence at 2:10 p.m. ET, with live coverage available on Peacock and through the official IMSA YouTube channel across 230 countries.
