Nick Tandy Aims for Endurance Racing Triple Crown at Le Mans
Nick Tandy, a pivotal driver for Porsche Penske Motorsport, enters the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the potential to secure the prestigious endurance racing Triple Crown. After victories at Daytona and Sebring earlier this year, Tandy, alongside teammates Felipe Nasr and Laurens Vanthoor, could become the first to achieve this milestone within a calendar year.
In an exclusive interview, Tandy emphasized the significance of Le Mans: “Winning Le Mans in any year stands alone by itself… it’s our World Cup final.” He insists that despite the possibility of a Triple Crown, the team’s preparation remains unchanged, focusing on maximizing their chances during this iconic event.
Tandy’s recent success includes becoming the first driver to win all major 24-hour endurance races outright, a feat he fully appreciated only after his Daytona victory. Currently, he will drive the #4 Porsche 963 at Le Mans, teaming up with Nasr and defending Formula E champion Pascal Wehrlein, who will be participating in his third endurance race.
The 2025 IMSA Sportscar Championship has seen Tandy and Nasr dominate, clinching three wins in five completed rounds. Although Ferrari has been dominant in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) this year, Tandy remains optimistic about Porsche’s prospects at Le Mans, citing improved reliability and a smoother preparation process compared to previous years.
“From a driver’s point of view, we’re better prepared," Tandy stated. "We know what to expect.” Nonetheless, he acknowledged the inherent pressure of racing for Porsche, where expectations to perform and win are consistently high.
As he integrates Wehrlein into the team dynamics, Tandy draws on his past experiences, including his 2015 Le Mans victory. He noted the importance of fostering team cohesion: “An underestimated part of endurance racing is being able to motivate and work with teammates.”
With a strong foundation set from past events and operational improvements, Tandy and his team aim to make their mark at Le Mans, balancing the quest for victory with the camaraderie and teamwork essential in endurance racing.
