Petit Le Mans 2025: Cadillac Claims Victory; Porsche Clinches IMSA Championship

In a gripping 10-hour showdown at Road Atlanta, the #31 Action Express Racing Cadillac V-Series.R, piloted by Jack Aitken, Earl Bamber, and Frederik Vesti, secured a second consecutive Petit Le Mans victory. The Cadillac crossed the finish line 5.1 seconds ahead of The Heart of Racing Aston Martin Valkyrie, driven by Ross Gunn, Romain De Angelis, and Alex Riberas.

Despite a competitive run from the #6 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963, which finished third, drivers Matt Campbell and Mathieu Jaminet clinched the 2025 IMSA SportsCar Championship title. This result solidified Porsche’s dominance in the GTP class, allowing them to sweep the manufacturers’ and teams’ championships, along with the IMSA Endurance Cup.

Aitken started the race second on the grid, trailing pole-sitter Tom Blomqvist in the #60 Meyer Shank Racing Acura ARX-06. After taking the lead during the first stint, Aitken extended the advantage to nearly 10 seconds before handing off to Bamber. A subsequent right rear puncture under yellow flags briefly hampered Bamber’s charge, but strategic pit stops allowed the Cadillac team to reclaim and maintain their lead.

With four hours remaining, Vesti maintained a decisive lead over the competition. Though Campbell in the Porsche closed to within a second, Vesti’s timely pit activity enabled him to regain control and finish strong. The Cadillac’s strategy proved pivotal, especially during the final fuel stops, which saw the Action Express entry leap ahead in the required splash-and-dash scenario.

The Lamborghini SC63 LMDh, driven by Romain Grosjean, Edoardo Mortara, and Daniil Kvyat, finished fourth in a notable farewell to the model. The Meyer Shank Racing Acura completed the top five, while the #10 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac rounded out the top six.

In the LMP2 category, TDS Racing’s #11 ORECA-Gibson 07 claimed victory, with PJ Hyett and Dane Cameron securing the class championship for AO Racing. Paul Miller Racing’s BMW M4 GT3 EVO triumphed in GT Daytona Pro, while the Corvette Racing duo of Alexander Sims and Antonio Garcia clinched the class title with a third-place finish.
