2026 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship LMP2 Grid Taking Shape

The 2026 LMP2 grid for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship continues to expand as two teams make significant announcements regarding their return for the upcoming season.

United Autosports USA will field two ORECA 07-Gibson entries, with American driver Daniel Goldburg confirmed to return for his third season, piloting the No. 22 ORECA. Canadian Phil Fayer will make his full-time LMP2 debut in the No. 2 ORECA after joining the team earlier this year.

Goldburg, President of construction contractor CSCI, has distinguished himself in the LMP2 series, capturing victories at the Rolex 24 At Daytona and the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen, placing him second in the drivers’ championship. “These first two seasons have been the best experience of my racing career,” Goldburg stated. “I want to keep the momentum going, so I’m very pleased to announce my third season with the team.”

Fayer, founder and CEO of fintech company Nuvei, adds valuable experience to the No. 2 entry after a promising debut at his home circuit. “I’m thrilled to be joining United Autosports USA for the full IMSA season in 2026,” he remarked, expressing his eagerness to further develop as a driver.

Richard Dean, CEO of United Autosports, echoed optimism over the team’s trajectory, stating, “We are building strong momentum in IMSA… we can keep that positive, race-winning trajectory going in 2026 and beyond.” Additional driver announcements will be revealed in due course.

Also confirmed this week, Tower Motorsports, the 2022 LMP2 Champion, will return for its seventh season, with John Farano as the first driver announced for the No. 8 ORECA. The team faced disappointment this year when they were stripped of their Rolex 24 victory due to a skid block wear violation but rebounded with a second-place finish at the Twelve Hours of Sebring.

These announcements complement earlier news of a strategic partnership between Bryan Herta Autosport and PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports, alongside the revival of Intersport Racing, backed by HMD Motorsports. With these developments, the 2026 IMSA LMP2 landscape has promising prospects for competitive racing.
