Toyota Unveils GR GT3 Race Car Ahead of 2027 Debut

Higashi-Fuji, Japan – Toyota has officially unveiled the highly anticipated GR GT3 race car, marking its entry into the GT3 category. The model was presented at Toyota’s Higashi-Fuji Technical Center, following its initial showcase at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June. The GR GT3 is slated for competitive debut around 2027.

Constructed with an all-aluminum frame, the GR GT3 features a new four-litre twin-turbocharged engine, capable of delivering a maximum output of 650PS. The vehicle is designed with a focus on driver ergonomics, ensuring optimal visibility and comfort. According to Toyota, the car embodies a ‘driver-first principle’ to cater to both professional and amateur racers.

Toyota’s announcement confirms that the existing Lexus RC F GT3 will continue to compete for another season, as there are currently no mid-season homologation changes allowed in the World Endurance Championship. ASP, a Toyota customer team, has expressed confidence in the performance of the RC F GT3 until the GR GT3 is ready.

While the GR GT3 carries the Toyota brand name, there are indications that it may be marketed under the Lexus banner in specific markets, particularly the United States.

In tandem with the GR GT3 release, Toyota also heralded its enhanced partnership with the Haas Formula 1 team, which will see the team rebranded as the TGR Haas F1 team starting in 2026. This strategic move underscores Toyota’s expanding presence in multiple motorsport disciplines.

Haas drivers Oliver Bearman and Esteban Ocon previously sampled both the GR GT3 and its road-variant at the Goodwood event, heightening anticipation for the car’s upcoming endeavors on the track.
