The 2025 IndyCar Series season has begun with impressive performances from Arrow McLaren’s Christian Lundgaard. After the first five races, Lundgaard has secured three podium finishes, placing him third in the championship standings, just one point behind Kyle Kirkwood, while Alex Palou leads with a commanding 98-point advantage.

Reflecting on his strong start, Lundgaard remarked, “It’s a rocket start to the season. The amount of points the #10 car [Palou] has accumulated already, they can lose them as fast as they’ve gained them. They’re going to have bad weekends. They can’t win every weekend.” His confidence is apparent: “We need to focus on what we can control… I’m pretty confident that we can be in the mix at the end of the year.”

Lundgaard’s performance is noteworthy, particularly considering his switch from Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, where he achieved a total of three podiums including a win at Toronto in 2023. In just five races with Arrow McLaren, he has matched that tally. “If you would have told me six months ago that this was the case, I don’t think any of us would really have believed it,” he stated.

Working through initial challenges, Lundgaard noted the necessity of adapting to the new car, saying, “We need to solve problems for me to feel much more comfortable… I’m now at a point where I’m at peace, and I’m comfortable with the material and how the car handles.”

Additionally, he expressed his positive rapport with teammate Pato O’Ward and 20-year-old Nolan Siegel, emphasizing a collaborative team dynamic. “Pato and I have had a conversation about pushing the team forward… I think that’s just proven to be a very strong pairing,” Lundgaard said.

Looking ahead to the upcoming Indianapolis 500, he emphasized a relaxed approach, noting, “I changed my perspective completely… just go out and have fun, take it all in.” He remains optimistic about his and the team’s capabilities, stating, “I don’t think we’re going to see weekends where we’re going to struggle.”

As the Indy 500 approaches, Lundgaard’s blend of confidence, performance history, and team chemistry positions him as a serious contender in this year’s championship race.
