Cusick Motorsports Eyes Expansion and Future in IndyCar
As Cusick Motorsports navigates its strategic future, team principal Don Cusick is actively exploring opportunities for both Indy NXT participation and a significant return to the Indianapolis 500 in 2026.
At 69 years old, Cusick, who initially envisioned retirement after selling his primary business, has fully immersed himself in motorsports. He acknowledges the demands of expanding his team across multiple racing series, remarking, "We’ve loved working with Dennis Reinbold at Indianapolis and we’d be open to working with Dennis and his team again." While no formal agreements are in place, he expresses optimism about ongoing discussions with multiple teams.
Cusick’s partnership with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing (DRR) began in 2023 when he co-entered the No. 24 Chevrolet, initially piloted by Stefan Wilson and later by Graham Rahal. In 2024, Cusick continued as a co-entrant, supporting entries for Ryan Hunter-Reay and Conor Daly, with a focus on sponsorship growth.
Looking ahead to the introduction of a new IndyCar chassis in 2028, Cusick remains committed to co-entry arrangements, stating, "What we’ve been doing since we got into IndyCar is where we’re going to stay until it’s maybe time to consider doing more." His current confidence hinges on meaningful sponsor conversations, reflecting a solid intent to participate in the 2025 Indy 500.
Additionally, Cusick is closing in on a partnership for Indy NXT, with pivotal meetings set for the Java House Grand Prix of Monterey. "We have serious considerations for running two Indy NXT cars full-season for 2026," he confirmed, indicating that further developments are expected shortly.
