IndyCar Report: Kirkwood Secures Eighth-Straight Win for Honda at WWTR
World Wide Technology Raceway, August 27, 2025 – In a dramatic finish at the Bommarito Automotive Group 500, Kyle Kirkwood of Andretti Global snatched victory in the closing laps, fending off a dominant Chevrolet lineup to secure Honda’s eighth consecutive win of the 2025 IndyCar season. Launching from pole, Chevrolet drivers initially seemed poised to end Honda’s impressive streak, leading a combined 203 laps throughout the 260-lap race.
Despite intense competition from AJ Foyt Racing, Arrow McLaren, and Team Penske drivers, Kirkwood surged ahead on lap 256, ultimately crossing the finish line just 0.5 seconds ahead of Arrow McLaren’s Pato O’Ward. This victory extended Honda’s winning run to nine races, dating back to the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Mark Crawford, Honda Racing Corporation’s IndyCar large project leader, praised the team’s efforts: “First off, congratulations to our teams and all the associates at HRC. They’ve done a fantastic job and put in a lot of work to put us in this position. Eight wins in eight races to start the year is an impressive feat!”
As the series shifts focus to the upcoming XPEL Grand Prix at Road America, the rivalry between manufacturer teams remains fierce. Last year’s race saw Penske’s Will Power take the victory, while Honda’s Alex Palou and Penske’s Josef Newgarden claimed wins in 2023 and 2022, respectively. The unpredictability of the competition sets the stage for another thrilling contest this weekend.
