IndyCar Implements New Technical Inspection Protocol Post-Portland Race

In a significant move towards enhancing compliance within the IndyCar Series, four race entries were impounded following the BITNILE.COM Grand Prix of Portland. This action reflects the series’ commitment to rigorous technical scrutiny and collaboration with chassis manufacturer Dallara.

Championship leader Alex Palou from Chip Ganassi Racing, Pato O’Ward from Arrow McLaren, Kyle Kirkwood from Andretti Global, and race winner Will Power from Team Penske had their Dallara DW12 chassis impounded after the event. These vehicles were transported to Dallara’s U.S. headquarters in Speedway, Indiana, for a comprehensive 3D scanning process aimed at detecting any external irregularities.

IndyCar reported that all four vehicles successfully met regulatory compliance, stating, “This was planned, internally, prior to the race and the impacted teams were notified that one of its cars (selected following the checkered flag) would go through this process.” The scanned cars—Nos. 5, 10, 12, and 27—were cleared and returned to their respective teams shortly thereafter.

This initiative follows a similar inspection conducted after the Indianapolis 500, reinforcing IndyCar’s proactive approach to maintaining integrity in the series’ competition framework.
