Snap-on 250 Qualifying Results: Alex Palou Claims Pole at Milwaukee Mile
In a dramatic qualifying session for the Snap-on 250 at the Milwaukee Mile, Alex Palou secured pole position with a two-lap average of 162.971 mph, outperforming David Malukas, who initially held the top spot at 162.256 mph. This marks Palou’s sixth pole of the season with Chip Ganassi Racing.
Malukas, driving for AJ Foyt Racing, was in high spirits as the majority of the field completed their runs; however, Palou’s late effort dashed his hopes. "I guess I didn’t expect it," Palou remarked after his successful run. "But getting the pole or not getting the pole, it was everything."
Palou pushed his No. 10 Honda to its limits, stating, “I think I personally took it more than all other times that I’ve been on ovals in qualifying.” His confidence was reflected in his performance, showcasing superior speed which he felt might have exceeded his own expectations.
Behind Palou and Malukas, the top six saw Pato O’Ward from Arrow McLaren clock in at 162.078 mph, followed by Scott McLaughlin (161.758 mph) from Team Penske, Scott Dixon (160.951 mph) of Ganassi, and Will Power (160.819 mph) also of Penske.
Notable early performances included Josef Newgarden’s 160.330 mph and Graham Rahal’s nearly identical run at 159.995 mph. However, Malukas set the initial benchmark with his 162.256 mph lap as the session unfolded.
Several surprising results emerged during qualifying. Santino Ferrucci, a known strong contender on ovals, qualified in 23rd with a speed of 156.862 mph. Colton Herta faced challenges as he nearly spun out, ultimately qualifying last with a troubling average of 112.717 mph after completing several chaotic laps. Felix Rosenqvist compounded the day’s surprises by backing his No. 60 Honda into the Turn 4 SAFER barrier before posting a lap, placing him 27th and pushing Herta up to 26th.
