Chip Ganassi Racing’s Pit Crew Mastery Key to Success

Chip Ganassi Racing demonstrated remarkable improvement in their pit crew performance during the 2025 NTT IndyCar Series season, playing a crucial role in achieving a 1-2 finish in the drivers’ standings with Alex Palou and Scott Dixon. This year’s results highlight the significant enhancements made by Ganassi’s over-the-wall teams.

For much of 2024, Team Penske dominated pit lane, securing the Firestone Pit Stop Performance Award with crews finishing in the top four spots—Will Power’s No. 12 Chevy leading the pack. Conversely, Ganassi’s best result was a fifth-place finish with Palou’s No. 10 Honda.

In 2025, Ganassi’s fortunes changed dramatically. Dixon’s No. 9 Honda crew, led by Tyler Rees, surged from eighth to first in the pit stop rankings, while Palou’s crew, helmed by Ricky Davis, secured second overall, marking a strong 1-2 for the organization.

Davis praised the team’s collaboration and relentless dedication to improving pit stop techniques. “What they were able to achieve as a team is really something to be proud of,” he stated. He emphasized the importance of internal competition among the crews, which drives continuous improvement.

Despite overall team success, Ganassi’s No. 8 Honda entry for Kyffin Simpson finished last in pit stop rankings, indicating an area for development. Davis remarked, “It’s a shared success or failure,” highlighting the driver’s role in optimizing pit performance. Palou has worked on his entry and exit techniques to enhance overall pit stop times.

The utilization of cameras and data analytics allows teams to dissect their performances post-race. “Our pit stop coach breaks down the times and consistency,” Davis explained, mentioning the significance of consistent performance over mere speed. The goal remains achieving top rankings, culminating in the recognition of “Top Gun Performance” for the most consistent crew member throughout the year.

As the season progresses, the enhanced focus on technical execution and collaboration is paving the way for Ganassi Racing to solidify its dominance on pit lane and in the race standings.
