Will Power’s New Chapter: Successful Test with Andretti Global

Phoenix Raceway, Arizona — Will Power, the two-time IndyCar Series champion and all-time pole position leader, made his landmark debut for Andretti Global on Wednesday at the Firestone tire test. This marks a significant transition in Power’s career after nearly 17 years with Team Penske.

Power, who last raced for Penske in 2022, joined Andretti following a summer decision to leave the iconic team. He awaited the expiration of a non-compete clause before initiating his tenure on January 1. His outing in the No. 26 Andretti Honda was his first opportunity to familiarize himself with the new team and equipment, specifically tailored for the short-oval setting at Phoenix.

Reflecting on the experience, Power likened his debut to “the first day of school,” navigating new dynamics while expressing confidence in his new crew. “It’s a very good group of people… the crew chief is very good,” he commented, highlighting the team’s expertise. Power described the test as productive, noting a well-balanced car and valuable laps on the track despite challenges posed by unusually cold temperatures that limited testing duration.

While the initial outing provided limited data on chassis and engine performance, Power remains optimistic about his future with Andretti. “You realize how much you love doing it. It’s really cool to be able to work with a whole new group of people,” he stated, emphasizing his commitment to success in this new chapter.

As Power continues to adapt to his new environment, upcoming tests will yield further insights into the performance capabilities of the Andretti Honda. His optimism and eagerness to integrate with the team signal a promising start to what could be a pivotal year in his storied racing career.
