2024 IndyCar Update: Will Power Triumphs at Road America Amidst Team Challenges
Road America—In a poignant moment for Team Penske, Will Power secured his first victory since overcoming personal challenges with his wife, Liz. The win, achieved during the IndyCar Series event at Road America, was a testament to Power’s resilience and dedication amidst a tumultuous season.
After finishing second in the championship last year, where a seatbelt issue in the final race impeded his performance, Power has demonstrated consistent competitiveness in the early stages of the 2025 season. Despite a crash in the season opener, he has emerged as Penske’s leading driver, tallying five top finishes across the first seven races.
Last weekend, at World Wide Technology Raceway, Power added to his record as IndyCar’s all-time pole position leader with his 71st pole but faced disappointment when a tire failure caused an early exit. His misfortune was compounded by teammate Josef Newgarden’s crash and Scott McLaughlin’s mechanical retirement.
Reflecting on the rough patch, Power stated, “We’re all excited about St. Louis… but it was disappointing to have three DNFs. We were competitive and had a shot at the win until unfortunate circumstances played out.” He noted that the team remains in good spirits despite setbacks, emphasizing, “You have these ups and downs, and it can switch pretty quickly.”
As the team pivots to Road America, Power remains optimistic about their prospects. “Last year was special, driving into victory lane. I’m studying everything I can… No confidence has been lost. We’re going there to win, just like we always do,” he affirmed.
Power’s experience and leadership are crucial for Penske as they aim to convert potential into results. The team, despite recent difficulties, is gearing up for a strong performance as they look ahead to the next race.
