Prema Racing Seeks Financial Stability for Continued IndyCar Participation

Milwaukee, WI – Prema Racing, the latest entrant in the IndyCar Series, faces a significant funding challenge as it prepares for the 2026 season. First joining the American open-wheel championship in 2025, the Italian team, known for its competitive pedigree in European racing, is reportedly in search of new financial backing to sustain its operations.

Despite a promising debut season, including an impressive pole position at the Indianapolis 500 achieved by rookie driver Robert Shwartzman, questions about Prema’s long-term viability have been mounting since May. Team spokespersons declined to comment on these financial concerns when reached in Milwaukee.

The two-car outfit, with Shwartzman in the No. 83 Chevrolet and Callum Ilott in the No. 90, has made notable strides, securing three consecutive top 10 finishes leading into the Snap-on 250 at Milwaukee Mile. The team was established by Angelo Rosin, with his son Rene and co-owner Deborah Mayer at the helm, launching their IndyCar initiative with a substantial investment of over $40 million aimed at equipping the team with top-tier resources.

Mayer’s ongoing commitment to funding the team remains uncertain, particularly as industry competition intensifies. Like other teams such as Ed Carpenter Racing and Dale Coyne Racing, Prema is exploring new partnerships to navigate these financial hurdles, with the season finale at Nashville Speedway on August 31 serving as a pivotal moment for the team’s future.
