Rahal Leads Second Practice at Sonsio Grand Prix
INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Graham Rahal clinched the top position during the second practice session for the Sonsio Grand Prix, achieving a best time of 1:09.7242 on Firestone’s alternate tires. His performance marked an average speed of 125.930 mph, edging out rookie teammate Louis Foster by 0.1384 seconds, and completing a strong showing for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing with all three drivers in the top three.
The session saw early activity as Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon experienced a minor off-track incident before establishing a benchmark time of 1:10.9135. This was soon surpassed as his teammates, Kyffin Simpson and Alex Palou, put together strong runs. Simpson finished second in the first practice, while Palou notably set the fastest lap earlier in the session.
With 17 minutes remaining, Sting Ray Robb of Juncos Hollinger Racing ascended to the top of the timesheets with a time of 1:10.1657, utilizing alternate tires, and besting Palou by 0.1288 seconds. Palou and Simpson maintained competitive times on the primary tires, positioning themselves ahead of Arrow McLaren’s Christian Lundgaard and Pato O’Ward, who were separated by Will Power from Team Penske.
In a dramatic finish, Foster and Devlin DeFrancesco both employed alternative tires, resulting in an RLL 1-2-3 finish as Rahal lay claim to the top time. Conor Daly from JHR and Alexander Rossi of Ed Carpenter Racing also registered competitive times but fell short of Robb’s mark.
Preparations faced challenges; PREMA Racing’s rookie Robert Shwartzman encountered car troubles, resulting in no recorded laps, while Santino Ferrucci of AJ Foyt Racing had clutch issues that limited his track time.
