IndyCar Series Qualifying Report: Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Shines at Sonsio Grand Prix

In a thrilling qualifying session at the Sonsio Grand Prix, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL) showcased its potential, with Graham Rahal securing a commendable second position, rookie Louis Foster in third, and Devlin DeFrancesco rounding out the top five. This performance marked a significant turnaround for RLL, as all three drivers advanced to the Firestone Fast Six.

“I didn’t think we were going to be on the front row,” remarked Rahal after the session. “In the Fast Six, we were just able to put it together. The balance was really consistent, matching my best of the whole day. It feels great for this team. We needed this; we expect to be competitive at the Indy road course race.”

Despite this successful outing, the season has been challenging for the team. Rahal currently ranks 16th in the Drivers’ Championship, while Foster and DeFrancesco sit in 25th and 26th, respectively. Their qualifying results provide a crucial opportunity for redemption in Saturday’s 85-lap race.

DeFrancesco expressed satisfaction with his fifth-place starting position, highlighting the team’s focus on execution. “This is good redemption from Barber. We spoke about execution, and I’m hugely happy about today. Now it’s about controlling tire degradation and ensuring effective pit stops,” he stated.

As the series prepares for the race, RLL’s promising qualifying results set the stage for a potential turnaround in their season, offering a glimmer of hope for improved finishes and valuable championship points.
