Snap-on 250: Rasmussen Takes Victory at Milwaukee Mile
Milwaukee, WI – Christian Rasmussen claimed his maiden IndyCar victory at the Snap-on 250 on Sunday, mastering the Milwaukee Mile after overtaking Alex Palou in the final laps. Palou, who had dominated most of the race, held the lead until a late caution redefined the competition.
Rasmussen, driving the No. 21 Chevrolet for Ed Carpenter Racing, showcased impressive skill, repeatedly maneuvering past competitors. His decisive pit strategy during the caution—triggered by light rain—allowed him to secure fresh tires, which proved critical for his victory.
“That was the perfect call to come in and get new tires,” Rasmussen remarked post-race. “It’s a testament to where this team is headed, and it’s an amazing feeling to win.”
Palou, the newly crowned IndyCar Series champion, finished in second—1.9 seconds behind. "We didn’t lead the lap that counted," he acknowledged. "It’s disappointing, but they just executed a little better than us.”
Completing the podium, Scott McLaughlin of Team Penske secured third place in the No. 3 Chevrolet. Alexander Rossi and Pato O’Ward rounded out the top five, with ECR’s Rossi finishing fourth and O’Ward fifth.
A pivotal moment occurred during the last caution when several drivers, including Rasmussen, opted for new tires while those at the front stayed out. This decision allowed Rasmussen to rapidly close the gap and ultimately take the lead in the race’s final laps.
Rasmussen’s victory marked a significant milestone for Ed Carpenter Racing, delivering a much-needed win as the season approaches its conclusion. The driver emphasized the collaborative effort behind the team’s resurgence, hinting at more potential in the upcoming races.
