Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum Sees Record Attendance Following Revamp
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, which underwent a significant renovation and reopened two months ago, has reported exceeding attendance and revenue projections. President Joe Hale and head curator Jason Vansickle discussed the museum’s transformation and its reception, indicating strong engagement from visitors.
Record-Breaking Initial Reception
Since its reopening, the museum has attracted over 44,000 guests during race weekend, a dramatic increase from 12,240 in the previous year. Hale expressed satisfaction with the overwhelmingly positive feedback, stating, “There haven’t been any naysayers… people have been positive about the museum and their experience there.”
Dynamic Exhibition Plan
Vansickle outlined a five-year rotation strategy for exhibitions, ensuring a vibrant visitor experience. Highlighted upcoming galleries include a tribute to Chip Ganassi Racing, slated for late 2025, along with timely updates to existing features, such as the Bobby Rahal Family gallery and NASCAR Brickyard 400 displays.
Enhanced Visitor Experience
The renovation seamlessly integrated previously inaccessible basement areas into the general admission experience, effectively doubling the museum’s space without expanding its footprint. According to Hale, “We’ve integrated the basement as part of the general admission,” providing an additional 6,000 square feet for exhibitions.

The "Starting Line Experience" has emerged as a standout feature, designed to immerse visitors in the iconic race atmosphere. The museum also actively promotes educational programs, with new summer camps planned that include robotics and coding, emphasizing the array of motorsport career opportunities in Indiana.
