Sonsio Grand Prix Report: Rahal Letterman Lanigan’s Mixed Results Under Pressure
Indianapolis, IN – Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL) faced a challenging day at the Sonsio Grand Prix, with Graham Rahal finishing sixth after leading more than half of the 85-lap race. Following a strong qualifying performance—Rahal starting second, Louis Foster third, and Devlin DeFrancesco fifth—adverse race strategies and misfortune hampered their efforts on the track.
Rahal briefly took the lead from eventual race winner Alex Palou, marking a significant milestone as the first driver to pass Palou in the 2025 season. Despite his competitive drive, Rahal expressed frustration with the gap to the Chip Ganassi Racing teams. "The Ganassi cars are in a league of their own… I defended as best I could," Rahal stated. "We tried our best… but unfortunately we weren’t able to do that today."
Foster, who finished in 11th, noted that this race represented his best result in IndyCar competition. "It’s nice to finally get some decent points on the board," he remarked. Despite the disappointment stemming from his third-place starting position, Foster emphasized the importance of analyzing race performance for future improvements.
DeFrancesco’s race was marred by a stall during his second pit stop, which he described as both frustrating and undeserved given the team’s strong pace throughout the weekend. He stated, "We had such a competitive car… It hurts after being so strong this weekend." DeFrancesco remains optimistic about the upcoming Indy 500, citing a solid performance during recent testing.
Overall, while RLL encountered setbacks at the Sonsio Grand Prix, the team demonstrated notable improvements that they aim to build upon as they head into the crucial month of May.
