Mick Schumacher to Test with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing at Indianapolis
Indianapolis, IN – Mick Schumacher, son of seven-time Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher, will conduct his first IndyCar Series test with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL) on October 13 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) road course. This pivotal test serves as a potential stepping stone for Schumacher, who is currently engaged with the Alpine FIA World Endurance Championship program.
Both RLL and Schumacher are optimistic about future collaboration, although no formal agreements have been established beyond the test. The organization, led by three-time IndyCar champion Bobby Rahal and operated by his son Graham in the No. 15 Honda, is keen on developing talent and exploring opportunities in open-wheel racing.
“I am very much looking forward to driving my first IndyCar test,” Schumacher stated. “A big thank you to the RLL team for giving me this opportunity at a track with such significant history.”
The test is coordinated by new RLL president Jay Frye and former driver Dirk Muller, who has previously contributed to the team’s success. “This is an amazing opportunity for RLL to test an elite talent like Mick and bring two legendary motorsports families together,” Frye noted.
Schumacher, 26, made 43 starts in F1 with the Haas team from 2021 to 2022 before serving as a reserve driver with Mercedes. His return to competitive racing in 2024 saw him join the Alpine Hypercar program.
“I am curious to understand the characteristics of this race car and gain experience in the diverse world of motorsport,” said Schumacher, expressing his excitement for the challenges ahead. Bobby Rahal echoed these sentiments: “It’s going to be a great day for RLL and Mick, as he gets his first experience in an IndyCar.”
With a focus on maximizing the test, RLL aims to provide Schumacher with a solid setup, optimizing his exposure to the vehicle’s capabilities at IMS. The potential success of this test could set the stage for Schumacher’s entry into IndyCar racing in the coming seasons.
