Andretti Global Forms New Technical Alliance with Dale Coyne Racing
INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Andretti Global has established a new technical alliance with Dale Coyne Racing (DCR) that signifies a shift from its previous collaborations. Contrary to past arrangements with Harding Steinbrenner Racing and Meyer Shank Racing, which involved comprehensive support including dampers and race engineers, this partnership will focus on providing key components and technical information.
DCR will leverage the expertise of race engineer Michael Cannon, who rejoined DCR following the Indianapolis 500. Cannon’s experience is expected to strengthen the team’s efforts as they prepare for the 2024 IndyCar season, particularly with reigning Indy NXT champion Dennis Hauger leading the charge.
Coyne acknowledged the team’s recent struggles on superspeedways, stating, “We lacked last year in our superspeedway setups, both at Indy and Nashville, and that’s our big push right now to make that better.” He noted that Cannon’s relationship with Andretti and their collaborative approach will be pivotal in enhancing vehicle performance.
The partnership outlines a structured communication strategy, with regular meetings to discuss engineering philosophies and race strategies. “We will meet with them probably once a week,” said Coyne. “I think we’re a good team and we build solid cars.”
DCR demonstrated competitive potential last season with Rinus VeeKay, finishing 14th in the championship standings. The upcoming season aims to capitalize on the strengths of both teams, with Coyne exploring options for driver assignments once the second car is finalized.
Looking ahead, Coyne expressed hope for a lasting relationship with Andretti, envisioning future opportunities for Indy NXT champions to transition into IndyCar with DCR. “We’ve talked about that, and they’ve got more drivers coming through the pipeline that they have pretty high hopes for,” he said, suggesting a cautious but optimistic view of the alliance’s future.
