IndyCar Series Set for New Canadian Venue in Markham

In a significant development for the IndyCar Series, a new street race will be introduced in Markham, Ontario, as Toronto’s Exhibition Place prepares for the 2026 World Cup. This multi-year agreement between Green Savoree Race Promotions, IndyCar, and the City of Markham marks the relocation of IndyCar’s Canadian event, expected to debut from August 14-16 next year.

The Ontario Honda Dealers Indy street course will span 2.19 miles with 12 turns, situated in Markham Centre—north of Toronto. “We are excited to welcome the exhilarating experience of IndyCar Series racing hitting our streets in 2026,” remarked Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti. He expressed pride in establishing Markham as a new home for this summer tradition, recognizing the collaborative efforts of local stakeholders.

Renowned track designer Tony Cotman of NZR Consulting has led the circuit’s design. The layout will include a double-sided pit lane, straightaways, and challenging sections, promising an engaging race experience. The City of Markham has initiated preliminary work to ensure the venue is race-ready.

Jeff Atkinson, president of the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham, emphasized the importance of this new partnership: “We look forward to a long and successful partnership with the City of Markham and IndyCar.” He highlighted the event’s legacy, which dates back to 1986, as a foundation for the inaugural race at this new venue.

As preparations commence, the motorsports community anticipates a fresh chapter for the IndyCar Series in Canada, reinforcing Markham’s growing reputation in the sporting world.
