Tomac Triumphs in Season Opener: A Strong Start to 450SX Campaign
Anaheim, CA – Eli Tomac has solidified his position as a front-runner in the 2026 Monster Energy Supercross Championship, securing a commanding victory in the opening round at Anaheim. This marks an impressive start for the two-time 450SX Champion, who often finds his rhythm later in the season.
Tomac’s success can be attributed to his recent participation in the FIM World Supercross Championship, where he raced as a Wild Card. “You never know until you get out here and race everyone straight up,” Tomac remarked, emphasizing the importance of competitive racing over practice. His experience in diverse conditions during pre-season testing across California, Florida, Colorado, and Arizona has evidently paid off.
Leading from the outset, Tomac executed a seamless first-lap pass on teammate Jorge Prado and maintained a steady gap over rival Ken Roczen throughout the 20-minute race. “Those races are tough, leading from basically the get-go,” Tomac stated. “It’s definitely a mind game, focusing on the guy behind you.” While his lead appeared comfortable, Roczen kept pressure on, ensuring Tomac remained vigilant.
In terms of technical adjustments, Tomac made a pivotal change from his preferred scoop tire to a traditional rear tire, a decision he described as “one of the biggest changes for me.” He noted that a small suspension tweak also contributed to his bike’s performance. “The motorcycle was probably the best it’s been all day,” he added.
Tomac’s victory underscores not only his readiness for the season but also highlights the competitive depth of the 450SX field, which will challenge him as the series continues. With the right adjustments and a solid start, he could maintain this early momentum throughout the season.
