Watkins Glen Race Report: Bell Finishes Strong as Van Gisbergen Seizes Victory
In a critical phase of the NASCAR Cup Series, drivers vying for playoff spots aimed to solidify their momentum during the final weeks of the regular season. At Watkins Glen International, Christopher Bell showcased resilience, finishing second in the Go Bowling at the Glen after a streak of subpar performances.
Entering this race, Bell faced challenges, recording four lackluster finishes in six races, including a dismal 30th place at Atlanta and 24th at Chicago. His sole standout performance was a fifth-place finish at Sonoma. However, Sunday marked a turnaround, with Bell’s second-place finish highlighting his potential as playoffs approach.
Post-race, Bell expressed relief and satisfaction, stating, “Happy, yeah. I’m thrilled.” Yet, his excitement was tempered by the dominance of Shane van Gisbergen, who clinched another victory, further demonstrating his prowess on road courses this season.
“We’ve been struggling a bit to find a rhythm,” Bell acknowledged. “The car has been good, but executing the races has been tough for us. Really awesome to have a good day.” He also noted the challenge posed by van Gisbergen and his team: “Frustrated to get our butts kicked by the No. 88. He’s doing a really good job. That team has it really going on. We need to find a little bit more, but certainly happy.”
As the playoffs loom, Bell’s strong finish will be crucial for both him and his team, signaling their readiness for the upcoming challenges.
